Biography
Dinesh Jackson Samuel is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biomedical Engineering, University of California, Davis. He is a leading researcher in bio medical imaging and computer vision for surgical robotics. His research interests also span computer vision (with a focus on human activity detection), machine learning, human-centric, neuroscience-inspired artificial intelligence and surgical robotics. He worked as a Research Fellow in the department of Imaging Physics, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, United States. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment in Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK from 2019 to 2021. He is awarded the Doctor of Philosophy from Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, India, in year 2019, and received his Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India in 2013 and 2010 respectively. During his doctoral studies he worked as a Teaching cum Research Assistant at Vellore Institute of Technology University, Chennai, India, from 2014 to 2019. Formerly he also worked as EFT POS terminal programmer in Marshal Equipment & Trading Co., Dubai in year 2011. He has experience in working with many real-world projects namely, The SARAS (Smart Autonomous Robotic Assistant Surgeon) project which aims at developing a next-generation cognitive autonomous system for solo surgery. This project is funded by European Union in collaboration with University of Verona, Italy. During his Ph.D he worked on developing a “Tuberculosis (TB) Detection System using Deep Learning Techniques” which assists technicians in high disease prevalent areas. His exceptional work has been appreciated by the Union minister of India, Smriti Irani, for women & child development and textiles, in the annual convocation, held on 2019. He has filed two patents with Intellectual Property India. He authored/co-authored many international journal articles, book chapters and conference proceedings. He served as a member in Technical Program Committee for a number of International Conferences. He is on the reviewer board for many peer reviewed journals like IEEE transactions, Springer and Elsevier.
