Dongmin Liu has completed his Ph.D at Virginia Tech and postdoctoral studies in the University of Iowa Medical College. He is a professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech. Dr. Liu’s research is focused on identifying and characterizing phytochemicals for prevention and treatment of obesity, diabetes, and vascular disease. He has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Liu has served on various grant review panels such as NIH and American Diabetes Association, and is also serving as an editorial board member for various scientific journals such as American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology & Metabolism, Nutraceuticals and as associate editor for the journal Frontier in Nutrition.
I am anAssociate Professor of Food Science at London South Bank University, aVisiting Professor in LifeSciences, at Univ. Politècnica de València, Spain, Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), Fellow of the Higher Education Academyand a chartered scientist.I am also an assessor for IFST accreditation, a conciliator, a higher education academy mentor and reviewer. Recently, I mentored two staff in the 2021 promotion round.
I joined London South Bank Universityin 1994 and my expertise and research interests are in food chemistry, sustainability, and foodsafety legislation.I was the Course Director of the MSc Food Safety and Control from 2006 to 2020 and the LSBU CoordinatorInternational master’s in food management and Safety from 2006 to 2016. My teaching spans over 25 years and I have taught at various levels from level 4 to level 7.I am actively involved in PhD supervision and examination, internal and external. I am currently the director of studies for 4 PhD students and had two PhD and one MRes completion. I have been a nominee foroutstanding Supervisor and outstanding Lecturer consecutively from 2014 to 2019.
I am currently a PhD student working under the supervision of Dr Delia Ojinnaka(Associate Professor of Food Science) and Dr Amar Aouzelleg in the National Bakery School at London South Bank University. My research is focused on the role of plant-based packaging material in mitigating waste and promoting sustainability.
I hold a B.Sc. in Plant Biology at Bowen University Nigeria and a M.Sc. in Food Safety and Quality Management at the University of Greenwich Medway.
I have over 10 years of working experience in the food industry with a wide range of experience from food quality & safety, to technical specification writing. I also hold an advanced HACCP L4 qualification and I am an ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System Lead Auditor. I currently work with Gate group and the Head of Compliance EU.
