Biography
Manfredi Saeli (Palermo, Italy, 1979), EURO-PhD, Engineer, and Architect, joined the Department of Architecture, University of Palermo (Italy), in 2019 where he is Assistant Professor of “Architectural Technology” for the BA Degree in “Architecture and design in the built environment”, for the MS Degree in “Landscape architecture”, and formerly for the 5-year Degree (BA+MS) in “Architectural Engineering”.He is also in charge of the module “Innovative materials” in the University Post-graduate (II level) M.Sci. “Innovative materials and technologies for sustainable construction”.
From the University of Palermo,he gained a EURO-PhD in “Construction Engineering” (2011), a M.Sci. in “Nanotechnologies for Cultural Heritage” with Honours (2008) and the Laurea (Italian 5-year degree) with Honours in “Architectural Engineering” (2006).
He has been collaborating with the teaching activities since 2008devoting his contribution to the definition of traditional and advanced construction and building materials and technologies. Since 2011, he has co-supervised about 50 students’ thesis, and he is presently leading the Thesis Students Group devoted to innovative construction and building materials, aimed at developing sustainable waste-based composite materials for a greener construction.
His research activities are mainly focused in developing high technological solutions of innovative materials and products to improve the quality and sustainability of the built environments across the globe, taking into account the interaction between human lives, buildings, and the industry of Construction. In particular, his studies are dedicated to the development of sustainable bio-composite materials, nano-composite materials, and systems reusing industrial wastes in light of the circular economy approach to make the world cleaner and safer.
Since 2011, he is the first author, or co-author, of about 80 scientific papers published in international scientific journals and presented at national and international conferences. He was Visiting Professor/Researcher at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), University of Salento (Italy), Slovak University of Technology (Slovakia), and The Energy and Resources Institute (New Delhi), University College of London (UK), and Columbia University (USA). He is involved in many national and international research projects and has scientific collaborations with Italian and foreign Universities and Research Institutes. He has many institutional duties both from the Department of Architecture and from Courses of Study (Academic programs).
